The Summit seeks to connect progressive Georgians around issues such as education, healthcare, civil rights, peace and the environment. Investing in America’s Future is a key issue-oriented initiative of the Summit and Health Care for America Now is a cornerstone campaign to get accessible, affordable, quality healthcare for all. Larry has been a lobbyist and organizer at the Georgia General Assembly for almost 20 years. The only bumper sticker on his car is one that says “Honor Labor.”

It’s Jim Martin vs. Saxby Chambliss For US Senate!

Former state Rep. Jim Martin on Tuesday earned the right to challenge Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss by easily winning the Democratic primary runoff, in a contest in which Martin’s supporters portrayed him as more “electable” than his controversy-hindered opponent, DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones.

Martin needed the extra three weeks of campaigning to sweep past Jones, who narrowly led Martin by 34 percent to 30 percent atop a five-candidate Democratic primary field but fell way short of the majority needed to avoid the runoff. Martin took a mighty leap ahead and led by 59 percent to Jones’ 41 percent with more than 90 percent of precincts reporting in Tuesday’s runoff. Read more
