Kathy Ashe Joins The NFD on April 14

Kathy Blee Ashe is an active community leader, a former educator, a mother, and a volunteer. In June of 1991, she was first elected to the Georgia General Assembly House of Representatives. Kathy is currently the Representative for House District 56 …the heart of Atlanta.

She joins the North Fulton Democrats on April 14 to give a wrap-up on the most recent Georgia Legislative Session.

NFD March Meeting Recap: Barbara Payne

Executive Director, Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation.

Barbara Payne, Executive Director of the Fulton County Tax Payers Foundation, has been active in policy and socio/economic justice work for 18 years. Her career started as a journalist in Sarasota, Florida, writing for various community papers, that took her to Portland, Oregon, where she finished her BS in Communications at Portland State University. During her tenure at PSU, she became involved with the PIRG’s (environmental and consumer issues) and eventually got tapped to work on her first issue campaign, Campaign Finance Reform/Public Funding in 2000. She was instrumental in coordinating protests during the 2000 recount and covered Al Gore’s trip to Portland for the Vanguard, PSU’s campus paper.  She has setup organizations for such notables as Ralph Nader and Michael Moore and has been a consultant to over a dozen campaigns (both issue and candidate) nationwide. Having lived all over the nation, Barbara has working knowledge of almost every region and politics therein.

Barbara has lived in Atlanta almost 7 years. Her ‘mobile campaign’ career ended in 2004, after working in Las Vegas and Oregon on statewide initiatives. Barbara has been with the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation since November of 2007. Since that time, the Foundation has gained over 1000 new members, offered 8 events and has been fortunate enough to get regular coverage from local and national news outlets. The Foundation was instrumental in keeping property tax increases out of the 2009 Atlanta budget as brought to light various issues showing the waste of Taxpayer dollars.
