The North Fulton Democrats Are Now Meeting At…
The North Fulton Democrats are now meeting at the fellowship hall of the Unitarian Universalist Metro Atlanta North fellowship hall, an excellent and spacious facility! But I’m sure you have many questions like why we chose this facility. The answer to that is simple – we needed a place to meet and they had meeting space available. But it goes much further than that. The Unitarian Universalist denomination share many common goals with the Democratic party – open and free thought and attention to social and economic justice just to name a few. Plus, many North Fulton Democrats attend this congregation.
:: Uncomfortable meeting at a church?
The Unitarian-Universalims denomination isn’t like other mainstream faiths. It’s ideals and mission are very similar to those of the Democratic Party. It’s a theologically liberal religion characterized by its support for a “free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” Like the Democratic party, it’s a “Big Tent.” Unitarian Universalists do not share a creed. They draw on many different theological sources and have a wide range of beliefs and practices.
:: Will you be preached to or asked to attend Church there?
Absolutely not! The arrangement the North Fulton Democrats have with the UUMAN Church is strictly a business one. They have meeting space and we need a place to meet. It’s as simple as that. Our meetings will remain secular.
:: Are you still a little hesitant because you’ve just never heard of this church before?
You actually have a lot in common with many people identified as Unitarian-Universalists – Thomas Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic party.
Other “UUs” include Adlai Stevenson, Democratic nominee for President in 1952 and 1956; President John Adams, Charles Dickens, Susan B. Anthony, Isaak Newton, Christopher Reeve, T. S. Eliot, and folk singer Pete Seeger. The North Fulton Democrats’ former treasurer, Bernie Lobracco, is a Unitarian-Universalist, as is our first elected Secretary (1992) Ellen Milholland who twice ran against Republican Tom Price for State Senator District 56.
:: Are there other benefits?
You bet! One is obvious – we’re not meeting at a bar anymore! The UUMAN church is a safe place for your entire family. It’s clean and has a healthy atmosphere! And it’s only a short distance away from or former meeting place!
